In a recent incident that has ignited strong feelings across communities, Renee Good, a mother of three and devoted wife, was shot and killed by a federal immigration agent while her vehicle was surrounded by ICE officers in Minneapolis.
The tragedy unfolded as Renee and her wife, Rebecca Good, had stopped to lend support to their neighbors. In her first public statement about the incident, Rebecca remembered Renee as a beacon of kindness, stating, “We had whistles. They had guns,” while emphasizing the loving legacy her wife left behind.
Witness video captured the moment leading up to the shooting, where officers demanded Renee open her vehicle door. As she attempted to drive away, an agent fired at least two shots at close range, prompting widespread outrage over the use of lethal force.
Despite the Trump administration's claims characterizing Renee as a domestic threat, local officials and protesters have strongly contradicted this narrative. Rebecca revealed that the couple had only recently moved to Minneapolis, where they were raising Renee's six-year-old son from a previous marriage.
With a focus on memorializing her wife, Rebecca shared insights into Renee’s character, stating, “Renee sparkled. She literally sparkled.” She portrayed Renee as someone who embodied positivity, always in tune with the essential truths of love and compassion inherent in all religions.
As discussions continue about the implications of this event within the community, Rebecca pledged to raise their son with the values that she and Renee cherished together — to show empathy towards others, even in the face of adversity and fear.
