A huge explosion at a factory in northern China has killed two people and injured 84 others, with five individuals still reported missing, according to state media. The blast occurred at approximately 15:00 local time on Sunday at the Baogang United Steel plant in Inner Mongolia, causing noticeable tremors in the vicinity.
Online footage captured the explosion releasing thick plumes of smoke, while the site was strewn with debris, including collapsed ceilings and broken pipes. Among those hospitalized, five have sustained serious injuries. Local authorities are currently investigating the cause of the explosion.
Baogang United Steel is a prominent state-owned iron and steel enterprise. China has a well-documented history of industrial accidents, including factory explosions and mine collapses. Notably, a series of significant explosions in the port city of Tianjin in 2015 resulted in 173 fatalities and widespread devastation. Similarly, a chemical plant explosion in Shandong last year claimed five lives and left at least 19 injured.
