Thousands Rally in Islamabad to Demand Release of Imran Khan

Supporters of jailed former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan have marched into the capital Islamabad, urging authorities to secure his release and prompt medical care.

The 73‑year‑old, imprisoned last year on corruption charges he says are politically motivated, reportedly lost much of his vision during his jail stay, sparking widespread concern.

Around 5,000 demonstrators departed from Lakki Marwat on Sunday, paused for the night, and resumed the march toward Islamabad on Monday, despite shipping‑container blockades set up by police to control access to the city.

Negotiations between government officials and PTI leaders failed after authorities rejected the party’s request for Khan’s confinement and denied a medical examination at a private hospital, as demanded by supporters.

The protest echoes past clashes where Khan’s supporters have seized major streets in Islamabad, prompting deadly crackdowns; this time, the demonstrators emphasize the urgency of political and medical intervention for their leader.
