In a tense exchange that saw both sides intensify military posturing, President Donald Trump warned Iran that Tehran would soon "pay the price" after a series of strikes on U.S. military bases in the Middle East.

The U.S. reportedly struck Iranian sites following the downing of a U.S. army helicopter in the Gulf. In retaliation, Iran fired on 21 U.S. positions, including bases in Bahrain and Jordan, according to the IRGC.

Trump's remarks, posted on Truth Social, called Iranian forces a "complete and total mess" and insisted that talks had stalled, "too long to negotiate a deal." He had earlier claimed the U.S. and Iran were "in the final throes of a very good deal."

Iranian officials responded, accusing Washington of "damaging this diplomatic process" and demanding consistency in its messaging and respect for the ceasefire.

Analysts warn that the escalating rhetoric could trigger a wider conflict, with strategic alliances in the Gulf becoming increasingly volatile.
