A tragic accident occurred on Sunday night when a bus, carrying Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals, overturned on a mountainous section of the N1 highway in South Africa's Limpopo province.
According to local transport officials, the bus veered off the road and plunged down an embankment, resulting in the deaths of 42 people, including seven children. President Cyril Ramaphosa has since expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing its impact not just on South Africa but also on the neighboring countries of Zimbabwe and Malawi.
The exact cause of the crash remains unknown, prompting an investigation. Reports indicate that the bus was traveling from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape. While the exact number of passengers at the time of the crash is unclear, officials have confirmed that, in addition to the fatalities, 49 individuals sustained injuries.
Government officials, including Transport Minister Barbara Creecy, are expected to visit the crash site and meet with the victims' families and those injured in the accident.
