Five Palestinians were killed, including two children, and several wounded when Israeli aircraft struck tents for displaced people west of Khan Younis, according to medics at the Kuwait Field Hospital.
The strikes hit Gaza's coastal al-Mawasi area.
Medical teams reported that the deceased included two women (aged 46 and 30), a 36-year-old man, and two boys (aged eight and 10).
About 32 injured individuals received medical treatment at the hospital.
Rescue workers stated they recovered the bodies from al-Najaat camp, a cluster of tents housing numerous displaced people.
The Israeli military claimed the attack targeted a Hamas militant following injuries sustained by five of its soldiers earlier the same day.
The Hamas terrorist organization carried out a blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement, attacking IDF troops in the Rafah area, said a statement from the Israel Defense Forces.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the intention to respond accordingly to Hamas actions.
Eyewitnesses indicated that the initial airstrike targeted specific tents within the al-Mawasi displacement area, with subsequent blasts occurring near the Kuwait hospital, causing panic among families seeking refuge.
Hamas characterized Israel's assault as barbaric and indiscriminate, asserting it violated a ceasefire that had been in place since October 10.
The Israeli military's ongoing offensive in Gaza commenced following a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in approximately 1,200 fatalities and 251 hostages taken.
Since then, over 70,100 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives due to the ongoing Israeli military actions, according to the Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza.
