At least 17 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes in the north and south of Gaza, hospitals say.
Israel's military stated that the strikes were a response to gunfire from 'terrorists', which seriously injured one of its soldiers during operations near the Yellow Line, the boundary delineating areas controlled by Israel.
According to hospital officials, among those killed were six children from Gaza City and Khan Younis. Al-Shifa hospital received the bodies of 13 people, including five children, after strikes hit residential areas.
Israeli forces conducted precise strikes, claiming they were necessary due to what they described as a violation of the ongoing ceasefire agreement that has been in place since October 10.
The humanitarian situation remains dire, with the Hamas-run health ministry reporting a total of 529 deaths in Gaza from Israeli fire since the commencement of the conflict.
This outbreak of violence marks a significant escalation following a prolonged period of relative quiet that was underpinned by diplomatic efforts to maintain ceasefire conditions.
