Are we any closer to peace in Ukraine?

After a frantic, often confusing few days of diplomacy, Donald Trump seems to think so.

We're getting very close to a deal, he told reporters on Tuesday.

For his part, Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky, who had looked and sounded grim over the weekend, said there were now many prospects that can make the path to peace real.

There are significant results, he said, after reviewing the key discussions in Geneva, and there is still much work to be done.

Yet, the Kremlin's responses remain guarded. President Putin's aides have expressed that many elements of a potential agreement require further discussions among experts.

With a leaked US plan sparking controversy and a European counter-proposal suggesting diplomatic alternatives, Ukraine remains caught in a web of negotiations surrounded by its territorial integrity and security concerns. The ongoing uncertainty reflects the complexities of reaching a comprehensive peace agreement amid differing international interests involved.

In the face of fluctuating updates from leaders and shifting diplomatic stances, the path forward remains challenging, with key decisions yet to be made regarding territory and clear security guarantees.
