Celebrity Lawyers Withdraw from D4vd's Murder Trial – Public Defender Steps In

The legal team that had been hired to represent American singer D4vd, legal name David Anthony Burke, has formally withdrawn from his case, and the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s office has taken responsibility for his defence.

Burke, 21, is on trial for the murder of 14‑year‑old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, whose body was discovered in a Tesla parked at his address in September 2025. Prosecutors allege he stabbed the teen after a prolonged history of sexual abuse and then dismembered the body.

A judge last month confirmed that Burke will stand trial for first‑degree murder. He pleaded not guilty on Monday before the charges were formally adjourned for the arraignment.

The collapsed defense counsel included Blair Berk, Marilyn Bednarski and Regina Peter. “We continue to support David and his defense against these serious charges,” they said. Berk had previously represented high‑profile stars such as Mel Gibson, Harvey Weinstein, Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

In a statement to the media, Deputy Public Defender Walid Kandeel said the public defender’s office will provide Burke with a “highly capable and committed team of attorneys and investigators.” The case carries potential death penalty implications due to special circumstances involving financial gain.

Prosecutors claim that Hernandez threatened to reveal Burke’s sexual relationship with a minor, potentially destroying his burgeoning music career. The alleged murder allegedly took place when Hernandez arrived at Burke’s Hollywood home on the day of the alleged incident.
