British Tourist Killed in Catalonia Paragliding Accident
A 63‑year‑old British man died during a paragliding accident near the town of Tremp in Catalonia, Spain, authorities said on Wednesday.
Emergency crews received the call at 13:30 local time (14:30 BST) in the Palau de Noguera area. The man was found seriously injured and was treated on‑scene with first aid before medical teams arrived. Unfortunately, the victim later died, and his body has been recovered by rescuers.
The UK Foreign Office has said it is supporting the family of the deceased British man, while local authorities say they are investigating the exact cause. Early reports suggest the paragliding pilot may have become tangled in power lines before the crash, but no official confirmation has yet been issued.
Three fire brigade units and two medical teams attended the scene, according to the Catalan government. In addition, the Mossos d'Esquadra police force worked with five citizen security and investigation units to secure the area and gather evidence.
Authorities expect to inform the victim’s family through British consular channels, as confirmed by local media. The incident underscores the risks inherent in free‑fall sports and the importance of safety protocols in remote mountainous areas.
