British paraglider dies in tragic accident near Tremp, Catalonia
A 63‑year‑old Briton died after a paragliding mishap on Wednesday in the Palau de Noguera area, close to the town of Tremp. The pilot was found severely injured by rescuers and received first aid until medical teams arrived, but he later died.
Emergency services were dispatched to the crash site at about 13:30 local time (14:30 BST). The Catalan government said three fire brigades, two medical teams and police units – including five Mossos d’Esquadra and citizen security units – responded to the scene. Despite local reports of the man becoming tangled in power lines, officials have not confirmed the exact cause of the accident.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed it was supporting the victim’s family and that consular channels would handle communication with British authorities. The incident happened in an area popular with paragliders and hang gliders on the edge of the Pyrenees.
