A major player in the alleged kidnap and murder of an 85-year-old grandfather in Sydney has been arrested and charged with murder, according to police.

Chris Baghsarian was taken from his North Ryde home on February 13 in what authorities describe as a case of mistaken identity. His body was discovered nearly two weeks later near a golf course.

Two men had previously been charged related to the incident, and now police have charged a 23-year-old man with numerous offenses, including kidnapping and murder. Det Chief Insp Andrew Marks indicated the arrested man was a significant figure in the crime.

Investigators believe the suspect facilitated the abduction and aided in the disposal of Baghsarian’s body. He was apprehended at a residence in Seven Hills and has been denied bail.

Additionally, a 23-year-old woman was arrested alongside him for a separate offense but does not face charges related to Baghsarian's death.

Detectives suspect that up to nine individuals were involved in the kidnapping and are continuing their investigation. Local reports suggest the violent act may have targeted a family associated with organized crime.

In the aftermath of the kidnapping, police appealed for the safe return of Baghsarian, who required daily medication for health issues.

Last week, surveillance footage was released showing three individuals near a location believed to be where Baghsarian was held against his will, reinforcing ongoing concerns about safety and organized crime in the region.

As authorities prepare to present further evidence, including the suspect's physical involvement in the abduction, the case raises broader questions about violence and mistaken identity in Sydney.
