Emaa Hussen Charged with Smuggling 320 kg of Meth to Australia
British actress Emaa Hussen (known for her roles in E20 and the action film Hummingbird) appeared in court today after police charged her with attempting to import a commercial quantity of methamphetamine into Australia. The shipment from Ghana was hidden inside bags of charcoal, and customs officials discovered the drugs when they were inspected at Sydney’s Port Botany. Authorities say the meth had an estimated street value of about A$296 million, equating to roughly US$208 million or £157 million.
Hussen was seen at a storage facility in Girraween, Sydney, where police say she supervised men as they unpacked the containers. The car that carried the meth was later driven to a house in Blacktown, where police arrested her and seized electronic devices and notebooks. A woman and a man in Adelaide were also charged for using false identities to rent the storage units.
The Australian Federal Police say the seizure stopped an estimated 3.2 million deals from reaching Australian streets. The case will resume in August after Hussen was denied bail at her first hearing.
