A massive attack by Russia against Ukraine's capital has killed four people and injured at least eight others, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said.


Drones hit several regions overnight, including Zaporizhzhia, where at least 16 people, including three children, were injured, authorities said.


Ukraine's foreign minister stated that hundreds of drones and missiles were deployed in the latest attacks across Ukraine. Russia has not publicly commented on the escalation.


On Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cautioned that Russia's ambitions extend beyond Ukraine, indicating potential tests for European air defenses as the country conducts incursions into several NATO member states.


Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and has continuously defied international efforts—the latest led by U.S. President Donald Trump—to negotiate peace.


“Putin will not wait to finish his war in Ukraine. He will look to open up another direction. No one knows where that will lead,” Zelensky remarked.


The assaults prompted the Polish military to scramble jets early Sunday as Russia's attacks on western Ukraine were reported. Poland described these actions as preventive measures, following a series of drone incursions that led to NATO reinforcing its eastern flank.


Moscow denied responsibility for drone activities that were reported over Danish airspace, while allegations of violations from Estonia also surfaced.


In a recent address at the UN General Assembly, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov denied plans to attack EU or NATO countries, yet warned of a strong response to any acts perceived as aggression towards Russia.
