The US State Department has issued a warning about credible reports indicating that Hamas is planning an 'imminent' attack on civilians in Gaza, which would violate the ceasefire agreement currently in effect.

A statement released on Saturday characterized such an attack against Palestinians as a 'direct and grave' violation of the ceasefire, which has seen significant progress through mediation efforts.

The details of the potential attack remain unclear, as the State Department has not specified the source of the intelligence. Currently, the first phase of the ceasefire deal between Hamas and Israel is in action, with all living hostages released and bodies of deceased individuals being returned to Israel.

As part of the ceasefire agreement, Israel has released 250 Palestinian prisoners, along with 1,718 detainees from Gaza. The U.S. has communicated its concerns to other guarantors of the Gaza peace agreement, including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, demanding Hamas uphold its commitments.

Should Hamas proceed with this planned attack, U.S. officials have indicated that 'measures will be taken to protect the people of Gaza and preserve the integrity of the ceasefire.' Currently, Hamas has yet to comment on these allegations.

Previously, President Trump issued a stark warning to Hamas regarding any actions that could harm civilians, underscoring the risks of further escalation. Last week, graphic videos surfaced depicting incidents of violence purportedly involving Hamas, prompting renewed scrutiny of the group's actions in Gaza.

The situation remains fluid, with both sides contending with the complexities of the ceasefire and escalating violence in the region.
