BULVERDE, Texas (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded at Hill Country College Preparatory High School where a 15-year-old student shot a teacher early Monday morning before turning the gun on himself.
The Comal County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the motive behind the shooting, which resulted in the teacher being rushed to a San Antonio hospital. As of now, her condition remains unspecified. The student died instantly at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Classrooms went on lockdown shortly after 8:30 a.m., just before the start of classes at 8:55 a.m. Students described hearing loud bangs and screams, leading to chaos as a teacher urgently directed students into a classroom for safety.
To reunite families, students were later transported to a nearby middle school where parents anxiously awaited their return, many praying for their children's safety.
One parent expressed concern about the emotional impact on his daughter, who has autism. He expressed that returning to school after such an ordeal would be particularly daunting for her.
The school, which opened its doors in August 2020, offers a curriculum centered around science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. With approximately 260 students currently enrolled, this community faces a harrowing aftermath of this tragedy.
