In a heartbreaking incident, six U.S. service members were killed last week when their military refueling plane crashed in western Iraq amidst ongoing operations against Iran. Among the victims was Tech Sgt. Ashley B. Pruitt, a devoted mother of two from Bardstown, Kentucky, who leaves behind her 3-year-old daughter and a stepson.
Her husband, Gregory Pruitt, shared his emotions during a phone interview, calling Ashley 'radiant' and recalling how she was a light in any room she entered. Ashley had a distinguished military career with nearly 900 combat flight hours over her nine years of service.
The aircraft was involved in operations against Iran when a harmful incident involving another plane occurred, prompting a crash that is now under investigation by U.S. Central Command. The loss of these service members has deeply affected their communities, with military officials expressing their sorrow over the tragic event.
Among the other victims were Capt. Seth R. Koval, Capt. Curtis J. Angst, Maj. John A. 'Alex' Klinner, and Tech. Sgt. Tyler Simmons. Each of them is remembered not only for their service and valor but also for their dedication to family and friends.
In one statement, Koval's wife described him as a loving husband and father, while Angst's family highlighted his generosity and passion for service. Maj. Klinner, who had recently been promoted and had three small children, was praised for his kindness and support to others.
This tragedy has underscored the risks that military personnel face, with a long history of service in operations like these. The ongoing investigation seeks to clarify the reasons behind the crash, as families and the nation mourn the heroes lost.
