Tragic Crash of Colombian Military Plane Claims Lives
A Colombian Air Force plane has tragically crashed in the south of the country, resulting in at least eight fatalities and over 80 injuries. The aircraft, a US-made C-130 Hercules, was transporting 114 army personnel and 11 crew members when it went down near Puerto Leguízamo in Putumayo province.
Regional authorities confirmed the death toll, and reports indicate that emergency workers are actively searching the wreckage for survivors. Air Force commander Carlos Fernando Silva Rueda stated that 48 individuals were rescued from the debris and transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Defense Minister Pedro Sánchez described the crash as a deeply saddening incident for Colombia, with President Gustavo Petro expressing outrage that such an accident occurred. He attributed the accident to 'bureaucratic problems' hindering the modernization of military equipment.
This unfortunate event unfolds shortly after a related incident where a Bolivian military plane also crashed, underscoring growing concerns regarding the safety of military aviation in the region. Investigations into the cause of the Colombian crash are currently underway.
