The incident has affected operations at UPS Worldport, the company's major air cargo hub.

At least 11 individuals have lost their lives after a UPS cargo plane crashed during takeoff from Louisville, Kentucky, on Tuesday evening, according to the state governor. Andy Beshear noted the casualty list might rise, with fears that it may include at least one child. The incident occurred at around 5:15 PM local time at the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.

The crash was triggered when the plane's left engine caught fire and subsequently detached during the aircraft's ascent, which led to a significant explosion and heavy smoke billowing into the air as confirmed by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).

Reports indicate that over a dozen passengers and crew members suffered injuries ranging from burns to smoke inhalation. Authorities are still searching for additional victims and accounting for those who remain unaccounted for. It is believed that the aircraft's three-member crew is sadly among the deceased.

Initial investigations have begun, with officials examining video footage and flight data. The NTSB has confirmed the recovery of the plane's flight recorder, aiming to determine the cause of this tragic accident. Surveillance footage revealed the engine's detachment during the plane's takeoff roll, although the precise factors contributing to the crash are still under scrutiny.

As a precaution, a state of emergency was declared to facilitate quicker resource distribution through Kentucky's emergency management and National Guard. Although flights have since resumed at the airport, UPS announced a temporary halt in operations at their Worldport facility, expressing their deep sorrow over the incident and its impact on the community.

Louisville, known as the hub for UPS operations, became the scene of a devastating fire that affected two nearby businesses, leading to initial shelter-in-place advisories due to safety concerns surrounding fuel emissions. The aircraft was significantly loaded with over 38,000 gallons of fuel, erupting into flames upon impact.
