Welcome to Cake Picnic, Sydney edition. What started as a small gathering has now grown into a global viral event, already selling out in cities like San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles.

Founder Elisa Sunga, part-time hobby baker and full-time Google employee, claims, I had no idea that I could ever go on tour for cake, highlighting the whimsical yet genuine nature of the event. The concept emerged when she hosted a small cake gathering in San Francisco that unexpectedly attracted 200 participants, igniting a passion for community through cake.

Armed with over 500 cakes, attendees congregated at the Royal Botanic Garden, proudly displaying their baked goods which range from savory focaccia to extravagant multi-tiered masterpieces. Each participant brought their unique creations with specific dimensions, adding a layer of fun and creativity.

Among the bakers at the Sydney picnic, Hilary Lindgren shared an entertaining story of her late-night baking frenzy with her daughter. There's just so many negative things happening in the world at the moment, so it's nice to do something like this, she said. The event not only unites couples and families but also serves as a platform for bakers to engage with the community and showcase their skills.

As attendees indulged in slices of cake from a wide array of flavors and styles, the festive atmosphere thrived. With an emphasis on connection and inclusivity, Cake Picnic presents a delightful contrast to the everyday hustle and bustle of urban life. The eclectic mix of participants, from young enthusiasts to seasoned bakers, illustrates the event's appeal across generations.

Sunga's vision continues to resonate, as she embraces both her career in tech and her love for baking. I want to have my cake and eat it, too, she asserts, blending her passions into a jubilant celebration of creativity and community.
