Former reality TV star Joseph Duggar is facing a child molestation charge in Florida, almost five years after his brother Josh, who also starred in the TLC show “19 Kids and Counting,” was convicted of downloading child sexual abuse images.

Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested in Arkansas, where he resides, and is awaiting extradition to Florida. He has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving a child under 12 years old, according to an arrest affidavit disclosed by the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Panama City, Florida.

Authorities reported that a 14-year-old girl had alleged that Duggar molested her multiple times when she was just 9 years old during a family trip to Panama City Beach. The girl’s father confronted Duggar about the abuse, to which Duggar reportedly admitted. Following this, police had the father call Duggar with a detective present on the line, wherein Duggar confessed again.

It is unclear whether Duggar has retained legal representation, as there has been no online court docket available in Florida for his case. Correspondence addressed to the Duggar family's media contact received no immediate response.

The Tontitown Police Department confirmed that the investigation remains active, and they have deferred further inquiries to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

In recent history, TLC's “19 Kids and Counting” portrayed the lives of Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar alongside their 19 children. However, the show was canceled in 2015 after Josh Duggar faced serious allegations of sexually abusing his sisters and a babysitter during his youth. After years of controversy, he was sentenced in 2022 to more than 12 years in federal prison for child pornography offenses.

As this situation unfolds, the Duggar family's struggle with scandal and legal troubles raises crucial discussions regarding the responsibility of public figures and the impact of their actions on their families and society.
