Mega billionaire Elon Musk, in a friendly interview with his aide and conservative influencer Katie Miller, stated that his efforts leading the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) were only somewhat successful and he would not do it over again.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO, also owner of the social media platform X, defended President Donald Trump’s controversial agency despite its early closure and noted how his businesses suffered due to his involvement with DOGE.
“We were a little bit successful. We were somewhat successful,” Musk told Miller, who previously represented DOGE in its public outreach.
When asked if he would repeat the experience, Musk responded, “I don’t think so. ... Instead of doing DOGE, I would have focused on my companies.”
Musk expressed nostalgia about what could have been, suggesting that his time spent on DOGE contributed to challenges at Tesla, including consumer protests. “They wouldn’t have been burning the cars,” he reflected.
Despite some setbacks, Musk indicated a level of achievement, claiming the agency managed to save $200 billion annually, though this figure appeared modest compared to his original trillion-dollar savings promises.
Listeners of the 'Katie Miller Podcast' were treated to Musk's thoughts on a variety of topics, including his views on artificial intelligence, social media dynamics, and even fashion, as the conversation extended to nearly 50 minutes.
Musk concluded that while DOGE contributed to some financial savings for the federal government, his heart is still tied to innovation and progress within his own enterprises.
