ORLANDO, Fla. — The Department of Justice is taking legal action against SeaWorld's parent company for banning wheeled walkers, known as rollators, claiming this policy violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by discriminating against people with disabilities.
The lawsuit, filed Thursday, requests a jury trial in Orlando to examine whether the ban constitutes a violation of civil rights laws. The DOJ contends that United Parks & Resorts needs to amend the policy that has affected guests' ability to use rollators since last November across parks in Orlando and Tampa.
In response, United Parks & Resorts rejected the allegations and stated that the ban was implemented to address safety concerns linked to the misuse of rollators, emphasizing their commitment to guest safety and accessibility.
According to the complaint, multiple visitors, including veterans facing mobility challenges, have experienced denial of entry due to the ban, prompting the DOJ's intervention.
SeaWorld maintains that it provides alternative mobility options at no cost, highlighting its efforts in maintaining safety while serving all guests.
