NEW YORK (Flux Daily) — Iranian-American journalist Masih Alinejad has become the target of a chilling assassination plot, prosecutors declared in court. The plot was orchestrated by two men, Rafat Amirov and Polad Omarov, who have been implicated as high-ranking members of the Russian mob.

The men are facing sentencing following their convictions, with prosecutors pushing for maximum sentences of 55 years for their roles in the plot that brought Alinejad's life into jeopardy. In a court statement, Alinejad emphasized her resolve to speak her truth during their sentencing.

Neither of the defendants, who have connections to various crimes, denied the accusations, although their defense teams have sought reduced sentences based on arguments regarding their level of involvement.

Alinejad, whose activism has focused on women's rights in Iran, was notably targeted after she led campaigns urging women to protest against mandatory head coverings in Iran. The Iranian government has reportedly offered a $500,000 bounty to silence her after previous efforts to intimidate her failed.

The events surrounding this attempted assassination underscore the severe risks faced by those who dare to speak against oppressive regimes. Alinejad has had to relocate multiple times to ensure her safety, living a life marked by the ongoing threat to her existence.
