A wall of ice, rock and mud tore through the Himalayan valley of Nuwakot in Nepal, leaving dozens of homes partially or wholly buried. Over ten days later, the Nepal Armed Police Force discovered that a 64‑year‑old woman named Chandika Shrestha was alive on the fourth floor of her own mud‑buried house.
Shrestha was immediately airlifted to a Kathmandu hospital, where she received emergency treatment. Rescuers continue to search the area for other survivors as the relief effort ramps up.
