Amidst the picturesque canals of Venice, the upcoming wedding of Amazon's Jeff Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sánchez has sparked outrage among local residents. Scheduled for the end of June, the opulent nuptials have prompted a coalition of citizens' groups to prepare protests against what they see as the commercialization of their historic city.
During a rally near the iconic Rialto Bridge, participants expressed their frustration about the event, vowing to take action on June 26, 27, and 28, coinciding with the wedding festivities. Federica Toninello, an organizer of the protests, rallied the approximately 300 attendees with passionate speeches about safeguarding Venice from becoming a "playground for the rich."
