U.K. Intelligence Committee Warns of Escalating Iranian Threats

The Intelligence and Security Committee of the U.K. Parliament has issued a warning about the rising threat from Iranian espionage, citing attempts to target dissidents and Jewish institutions.

Britain's parliamentary Intelligence and Security Committee has raised alarms about the escalating threat posed by Iranian espionage and assassination attempts, particularly targeting dissidents and Jewish organizations within the country. The committee's report, published on July 10, 2025, draws from extensive interviews with intelligence officers and classified information gathered over two years. It highlights a disturbing trend: since early 2022, there have been at least 15 documented attempts to kidnap or murder residents and individuals linked to Iran.

In their findings, the committee pointed to the increased risks that Iranian operatives pose to not only dissidents but also Jewish and Israeli entities deemed to be undermining the Iranian regime. This review of the Iranian threat was completed by 2023, although tension in the Middle East has only exacerbated concerns. MI5 has corroborated the report, maintaining that attacks are perceived by Iran not as strikes against Britain, but as collateral damage in its internal strategies.

To counter this emerging peril, the report urges the British government and its international partners to assert clearly that any Iranian aggression on U.K. soil would be deemed an attack against the nation itself, warranting a definitive response.
