The US has struck another vessel off the coast of Venezuela, killing six people, President Donald Trump has stated.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump asserted that the vessel belonged to narcoterrorists and was engaged in drug trafficking.

This incident represents the fifth strike under the Trump administration targeting boats accused of drug trafficking in international waters since September, with a reported total of 27 fatalities. However, the US has not provided specific evidence regarding the identities of these vessels or the individuals on board.

Legal experts have raised concerns about potential violations of international law, while neighboring countries like Colombia and Venezuela have condemned these military operations.

Trump's recent post mentioned that intelligence confirmed the vessel was trafficking narcotics, associated with illicit narcoterrorist networks, and was transiting along a known smuggling route. He also shared an aerial video of the strike.

The strike occurred amid tensions highlighted in a leaked congressional memo indicating that the US considers itself in a non-international armed conflict with drug cartels.

While the US claims these strikes are acts of self-defense, many legal professionals question their legitimacy under international statutes.
