LOS ANGELES (AP) — Director-actor Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were discovered deceased on Sunday at a residence in Los Angeles, as confirmed by a law enforcement official. The nature of their deaths appears suspicious, with indications of stab wounds. Authorities are currently questioning a family member as the investigation unfolds.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a distress call shortly after 3:30 p.m., finding the couple, aged 78 and 68, unresponsive. The LAPD's Robbery Homicide Division is now classifying the case as an apparent homicide, according to Capt. Mike Bland.

Although the identities of the deceased have not been officially released, Reiner was noted as a significant figure in the entertainment industry, credited with enduring classics from the 1980s and ’90s, such as 'This is Spinal Tap,' 'A Few Good Men,' 'When Harry Met Sally,' and more. His TV fame soared with the role of Meathead in 'All in the Family,' earning him two Emmy Awards.

Messages to Reiner's representatives had not been answered by press time. In a statement, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed grief over the loss, highlighting Reiner's profound impact on American culture and his dedication to advocacy for social and economic justice.

Born to comedy legend Carl Reiner, Rob married Michele Singer Reiner in 1989, meeting her during the filming of 'When Harry Met Sally,' with whom he shares three children. He was previously married to actress-director Penny Marshall from 1971 to 1981, and adopted her daughter, Tracy Reiner. Both his father and ex-wife have passed away in recent years, underlining a tragic chapter in Reiner's family narrative.
