Golfer Tiger Woods has been charged with driving under the influence after a car crash in Florida, police say. The Martin County Sheriff's Office reported that the 15-time major champion was also charged with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Sheriff John Budensiek disclosed that Woods, 50, rolled his Land Rover after colliding with a pressure cleaning truck on Jupiter Island on Friday. The golfer crawled out of the passenger side of his vehicle and passed a breathalyzer test post-incident, though he declined a urine test. Thankfully, no one was injured in this occurrence on Beach Road shortly after 14:00 local time (about 19:00 GMT). Sheriff Budensiek stated at a news conference: The DUI investigators came to the scene and Mr Woods did exemplify signs of impairment. They conducted several tests, and although Woods discussed his past injurious surgeries, he underwent thorough roadside evaluations. Ultimately, he was placed under arrest and taken to the Martin County jail. Budensiek emphasized the lack of suspicion regarding alcohol involvement, Mr Woods did a breathalyzer test with triple zeros, but when it came time for us to request a urine analysis test, he declined. He added that Woods was cooperative but sought to avoid self-incrimination: He has the right to refuse that test... However, he will be charged for that refusal, and we may never ascertain what impaired him at the time of the crash. U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the accident, expressing concern for Woods as a close friend: I feel so badly... He's a very close friend of mine, he's an amazing person, an amazing man. Sheriff Budensiek confirmed that Woods would spend eight hours in jail before being released on bond. The BBC has reached out to Woods' representatives for further comment.
