TAMPA, Fla. (fluxdaily.news) — Hisham Abugharbieh, a 26-year-old former student at the University of South Florida, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the disappearance of his roommate Zamil Limon and his girlfriend, Nahida Bristy. While Limon's remains were recovered from the Howard Frankland Bridge, Bristy remains unfound, raising community concerns.
The murder charges come in the wake of Abugharbieh’s earlier arrest under various preliminary accusations, including tampering with evidence and hiding a corpse. He was initially engaged with law enforcement due to domestic violence reports. Following a tense standoff with SWAT teams, he surrendered peacefully.
Relatives of Limon and Bristy disclosed that the couple had plans to marry before their disappearance on April 16. Witnesses stated that Limon was last seen at his apartment and Bristy at the campus science building shortly after.
As the investigation continues, an autopsy is pending for Limon to ascertain the cause and manner of death, reflecting the urgency to uncover the truth behind this tragic event. Hillsborough County is actively seeking any information pertaining to Bristy’s whereabouts.
Abugharbieh's troubled past includes previous arrests for domestic incidents, culminating in successful completion of a diversion program after earlier misdemeanor charges. This background has compounded fears surrounding his character, as prior domestic violence petitions indicate ongoing issues.
The community remains vigilant as they hope for a resolution to Bristy's disappearance and justice for Limon.
