Police in the Bahamas have released Brian Hooker, a Michigan man whose wife, Lynette Hooker, is missing after allegedly falling overboard from their boat in the Caribbean waters.

Hooker, from southern Michigan, had been in custody since April 8. Following consultations with prosecutors, law enforcement opted against filing charges at this time, as investigations into the incident are ongoing.

Brian Hooker expresses his unwavering hope, stating, “I won’t be able to stop looking,” and has plans to resume searches for his wife. He explained that Lynette fell overboard on April 4 as they were navigating towards Elbow Cay in an 8-foot motorboat. After Lynette lost the boat's keys, the engine ceased, forcing him to paddle ashore while unrelenting currents swept her away.

Despite the circumstances, authorities released Hooker while he maintains that he did not act wrongfully. His attorney, Terrel Butler, yet to comment on his release, has previously emphasized Hooker's non-involvement in any criminal activity.

The U.S. Coast Guard is also separately investigating the situation. Brian and Lynette have shared their life at sea with followers through their “Sailing Hookers” Facebook page, detailing their voyages and nautical adventures over the last two decades.

As the investigation unfolds, questions about Lynette's disappearance intensify, particularly in light of their turbulent past, which includes a 2015 police report documenting mutual accusations of assault. Despite this history, Lynette's daughter believes her mother could not have accidentally fallen off given her sailing experience.

Authorities continue their search for Lynette Hooker as family and friends hold onto hope for her safe return.
