HOLBROOK, Ariz. (AP) — Investigators in Arizona are continuing to delve into the circumstances surrounding the shocking shooting death of Kerri Ann Abatti, 59, the estranged wife of prominent California farmer, Michael Abatti. Although authorities have refrained from disclosing a definitive motive, it's notable that the couple's prolonged divorce has surfaced during interviews with family and friends.

Michael Abatti, 63, was apprehended last week in El Centro, California, following the tragic shooting incident that occurred at Kerri's family vacation home in Pinetop. Reportedly, after the fatal event, he returned to California early the next morning.

Navajo County Sheriff David Clouse commented during a news conference, Different theories will come up. The glaring issue is the divorce that they could not resolve. However, he emphasized that the exact motive remains unclear.

Michael's attorney, Owen Roth, stated that his client voluntarily surrendered and consented to extradition, maintaining Michael's innocence. Roth expressed concern for Michael's health, urging the public to respect his privacy during this challenging time. The case will unfold in court, emphasizing the legal principle of innocent until proven guilty.

Kerri, a descendant of early settlers in Pinetop, had initiated divorce proceedings, citing lifestyle discrepancies and financial disputes as prominent issues. As the divorce progressed, Kerri had requested spousal support increases, highlighting her struggles with maintaining her standard of living amidst the proceedings.

The investigation has gained further complexity with police conducting searches at Michael's residence in Southern California as they sift through evidence related to Kerri's untimely death. The couple's amicable portrayal during their marriage contrasts sharply with the financial and personal disputes that have come to light, painting a troubling picture in the wake of this tragedy.
