A high-profile lawyer for Nick Reiner, who faces charges of murdering his Hollywood director father, Rob Reiner, and mother, Michele, has withdrawn from the case.

During a court hearing, it was revealed that attorney Alan Jackson would no longer represent Nick. Despite his withdrawal, Jackson proclaimed his belief in his former client’s innocence.

Mr. Reiner, 32, did not plead guilty or not guilty during a brief appearance at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The bodies of the Reiners were discovered with stab wounds on December 14, 2025, in their Brentwood home.

Following his departure from the case, Jackson commented, Circumstances beyond my control, but more importantly circumstances beyond Nick's control, have made it impossible for us to continue our representation. He confirmed that he is legally prohibited from elaborating on the reasons for his withdrawal.

LA County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, however, voiced strong confidence in their case against Reiner, stating that a jury would convict him beyond a reasonable doubt.

Following Jackson’s withdrawal, Reiner will be represented by public defender Kimberly Greene. During the court appearance, Reiner agreed to waive his right to enter a plea, smiling occasionally while interacting with court deputies.

The next court hearing is slated for February 23, 2026.

Rob Reiner, 78, is known for directing iconic films including This is Spinal Tap, Misery, and A Few Good Men, while Michele Singer Reiner, 70, was esteemed in her own right as an actress and producer.
