NASHUA, N.H. (AP) — A gunman opened fire in a New Hampshire country club on Saturday as a wedding was taking place, killing one person and wounding two others, authorities said. A suspect is in custody.
The deceased has been identified as Robert Steven DeCesare, a 59-year-old man. New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella and Nashua Police Chief Kevin Rourke reported that the shooter is 23-year-old Hunter Nadeau, who has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the attack.
Authorities expect additional charges as they investigate the condition of the injured victims. Investigators are trying to determine a motive behind the shooting but have found no known connection between Nadeau and DeCesare.
Tom Bartelson, a guest at the wedding, described a chaotic scene. He recalled hearing the shooter make statements and noted the panic that ensued as guests ducked for cover.
The conditions of the wounded were not immediately available. Witnesses reported that people were desperately seeking safe spots as the chaos unfolded.
The victim's mother expressed devastation as she described the moment of the shooting, highlighting her uncertainty about her son’s fate.
Nashua Mayor Jim Donchess commented on the incident, stating the importance of community vigilance and expressing faith in police efforts to seek justice.
U.S. Rep. Maggie Goodlander also expressed her sympathy for the victims and their families as the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragic event.
