Actress and musician Halle Bailey, renowned for her leading role in Disney's live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid," has reportedly obtained a restraining order against her former partner, rapper and YouTube influencer DDG, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. The 25-year-old star alleges that he has demonstrated a pattern of abusive behavior since their breakup in October.
On Tuesday, a judge in Los Angeles mandated that DDG maintain a distance from Bailey and their one-year-old son until a scheduled hearing on June 6. In her legal filings, Bailey described numerous instances of physical violence and emotional distress caused by Granberry, alarming her about the safety of both herself and their child, Halo. "Darryl has repeatedly shown himself to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me throughout our time together," Bailey stated in her appeal for legal protection.
Bailey detailed an altercation from January during which she claimed Granberry's aggressive behavior escalated as she was securing their baby in his car. Following a series of insults, she recounted a physical struggle that resulted in her being physically hurt, including a chipped tooth as a consequence of the confrontation. A set of photographs of her injuries was included in her submission to the court and has been circulated by various media outlets.
Further complicating the situation, Bailey contends that Granberry entered her residence without permission and sent her a threatening message, further heightening her concerns. During another incident, she claims he reacted aggressively when she refused to allow their ill child to visit him, even damaging the family's doorbell camera—an act she documented when she sought help from a relative.
Under the restraining order, Granberry is also prohibited from possessing weapons and is subject to an investigation regarding his behavior toward Bailey, including the potential extension of the order for up to five years. Bailey emphasized the psychological toll of Granberry's alleged actions, which included vocal attacks directed at her via social media, causing her to incur a significant amount of online harassment.
Bailey has gained recognition in the music industry as part of the acclaimed duo Chloe x Halle and has achieved solo success, including multiple Grammy nominations. As for DDG, he gained popularity in the mid-2010s through his YouTube channel and has since released four albums, marking his entry into the entertainment industry.
