Florida Launches Investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate
Florida Attorney General initiates criminal probe into the Tate brothers amid serious allegations.
Florida has initiated a criminal investigation into Andrew and Tristan Tate, prominent British-American influencers, who recently traveled to the state from Romania where they faced serious charges of rape and human trafficking. Attorney General James Uthmeier confirmed that search warrants and subpoenas have been issued as part of this emerging inquiry.
In addition to the criminal investigation, the brothers are embroiled in a civil lawsuit filed by a woman who claims she was coerced into sex work and subsequently defamed after providing evidence to Romanian authorities. The Tates vehemently deny all allegations against them. Andrew Tate, a former kickboxer and controversial figure known for his appearances on UK television shows, has amassed a substantial online following despite the serious nature of the accusations.
Uthmeier, a Republican official, stated, "I directed my office to collaborate with law enforcement partners to conduct a thorough preliminary inquiry into the Tate brothers." He further noted that search warrants and subpoenas have been executed as the investigation unfolds.
In response to the investigation, the Tates' attorney, Joseph McBride, criticized Uthmeier's comments as "inflammatory" and "biased," alleging the Attorney General improperly took a side in a related Florida lawsuit where the brothers are suing a woman for her role in allegedly trying to harm their reputations.
The Tate brothers were first arrested in Romania in December 2022, where they faced charges linked to rape and human trafficking. They spent months under house arrest after denying these allegations. Recently, new claims have emerged, including accusations of sexual misconduct involving a minor, which they also refute.
As they navigate this complex legal landscape, there are concerns regarding their potential return to Bucharest later in March to meet prosecution terms. Meanwhile, UK authorities are pursuing extradition related to separate allegations of rape, human trafficking, and tax evasion. Civil actions filed by four women against Andrew Tate in the UK are seeking justice in light of perceived inaction by Romanian authorities.
