Crown Princess’s Stepson Faces Serious Allegations of Sexual Assault
Marius Borg Hoiby, the stepson of Norway's Crown Prince, has been charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault following a lengthy police investigation.
Marius Borg Hoiby, the 28-year-old son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, has been charged with multiple counts of sexual assault and rape, according to authorities in Oslo. This announcement follows an extensive police investigation that began after his initial arrest in August, which stemmed from accusations of bodily harm.
The investigation intensified as Borg Hoiby was subsequently arrested in separate incidents in September and November, during which police gathered substantial evidence, including witness testimonies and digital materials. His attorney, Petar Sekulic, stated that while Borg Hoiby takes the allegations seriously, he does not admit to wrongdoing in most cases, particularly those related to sexual misconduct. Sekulic expressed hope for acquittal if the case proceeds to indictment.
Borg Hoiby has been involved with law enforcement since he was 4 years old, when his mother married Crown Prince Haakon in 2001. Although he holds no official royal title or duties, his connection to the royal family places added pressure on the monarchy as the scandal unfolds.
The charges against him have been specified to include one count of rape involving intercourse, two counts without intercourse, along with charges of sexual harassment, domestic abuse, and police interference. In a previous statement to Norway’s NRK, he admitted to causing property damage and bodily harm while under the influence of substances and indicated that he would seek treatment for substance abuse issues.
Norwegian prosecutors will soon determine whether to move forward with an indictment against Borg Hoiby, adding to the uncertainties surrounding the future of the royal family.
