Celsius Energy Drink Recall: Vodka Mix-Up Sparks USFDA Warning
Consumers urged to check cans following vodka filling error in Celsius energy drinks.
In a surprising turn of events, the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) has issued a warning regarding the Astro Vibe Blue Razz edition of Celsius energy drinks after some cans were erroneously filled with vodka. The incident stemmed from a packaging supplier sending empty Celsius cans to High Noon, a vodka seltzer manufacturer, which then filled them with alcohol without awareness of the mix-up.
The recall extends to specific Beach Variety packs from High Noon that were produced in the same facility. Fortunately, as of now, there have been no reports of illnesses or adverse reactions related to the affected products.
The recall encompasses two production batches, and the USFDA has provided details on its website for affected consumers. The products in question were distributed to retailers across several states, including Florida, New York, Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, and Wisconsin, from July 21 to July 23.
For the impacted High Noon packs, the retail code is UPC 085000040065, with specific lot codes ranging from L CCC 17JL25 14:00 to L CCC 18JL25 03:00. Meanwhile, the Celsius cans bear the retail code UPC 8 89392 00134 1 and the lot codes L CCB 02JL25 2:55 to L CCB 02JL25 3:11. These lot codes can be found lasered on the bottom of the cans.
The USFDA advises consumers who possess the Celsius Astro Vibe energy drink with the relevant lot codes to dispose of it immediately and refrain from consuming the product. On a positive note, High Noon Beach Variety packs with different lot codes are deemed safe and not subject to recall.
