Emergency services work to control an extensive blaze in a luxury tower, with dozens treated for smoke inhalation.
More than 100 residents were swiftly evacuated from a luxury apartment tower in Buenos Aires after a significant fire broke out, affecting multiple floors. Emergency services reported that around 40 individuals were treated for smoke inhalation, with some requiring hospitalization prior to the situation being brought under control. The cause of the fire remains undetermined at this time.
Located in the upscale Puerto Madero neighborhood, the 50-story building witnessed flames reaching as high as the 15th floor, according to Alberto Crescenti, head of Buenos Aires emergency services. "It was fortunate that the evacuation was executed so quickly, which ensured the safety of those inside," Crescenti noted.
Witness accounts described the scene, with broken glass falling from windows amid the chaos. "I heard the fire alarm and came down as fast as I could," said Ornella Gril, a 30-year-old resident. Meanwhile, ex-footballer Mariano Pavone recounted his experience: "I saw smoke and immediately made my way down with my son and our dog. Thankfully, our apartment remained unharmed, but I worry for my neighbors. It was quite a scare for everyone involved."
