In brief
Displacement and loss mark the aftermath of Israel's conflict with Hezbollah.
The streets of Beirut echo with despair as the city grapples with the consequences of a recent war. For Hasan Raad, a 28-year-old content creator, the journey from stability to insecurity has been swift and painful. Once optimistic about his burgeoning career, Raad invested in a production studio and had dreams of one day driving a classic Mustang. Now, those aspirations seem like remnants of a distant past as the conflict has left his family without a home."We came out of this war with nothing," a visibly shaken Raad expressed, recounting the harrowing experience following an Israeli airstrike that destroyed his family's apartment in the Dahiya neighborhood. The war has not only rendered him and many others homeless but has also crippled local businesses and shattered lives that were already under strain from Lebanon’s longstanding economic crises.Since 2019, Lebanon has faced an economic decline that saw its currency collapse and savings evaporate, worsened by the pandemic's effects. The tragic 2020 Beirut port explosion compounded the turmoil, killing over 200 and resulting in immeasurable financial losses for the nation. As the aftershocks of the conflict reverberate through the country, civilians like Raad find themselves navigating a void where hope once resided.
