Human remains, believed to be of a man wanted on suspicion of murdering his three daughters, aged nine, eight, and five, have been found in the US state of Washington.
Police had been searching for Travis Decker since officers found his phone and the bodies of his girls Paityn, Evelyn, and Olivia in a remote campground on 2 June. His truck was also found nearby.
While positive identification has not yet been confirmed, preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to Travis Decker, according to the Chelan County Sheriff's Office.
The remains were discovered in a remote wooded area south of the town of Leavenworth, with authorities still working on the investigation.
Decker, 32, was wanted on kidnapping and first-degree murder charges, according to Wenatchee Police, as he allegedly hid in a remote part of the densely wooded state following the tragic loss of his daughters.
The girls' mother reported them missing on 30 May, after Decker failed to return the girls home following a visit. Reports indicate the girls died from apparent suffocation with their wrists bound with zip ties.
An ex-soldier, Decker may have been utilizing mountain survival skills learned from his military training.
The remains were found on Grindstone Mountain, a few miles from where the girls' bodies were discovered back in June. A $20,000 reward had previously been offered for information leading to Decker's capture.
The incident has led to widespread closures of national forests popular among hikers in the area as the investigation unfolded.
