Over 100,000 Ukrainian homes have lost power due to the latest Russian drone attacks on energy infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes primarily affected the Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, intensifying concerns as winter approaches.
Ukraine's energy ministry highlighted that these attacks are part of a broader tactic by Moscow to dismantle civilian infrastructure, which had previously led to the destruction of half of Ukraine's electricity generation capabilities. Recent strikes have also targeted Russian refineries and oil depots.
In a statement on Wednesday, Zelensky denounced the nearly 100 drone assaults carried out overnight, noting that critical energy facilities were prioritized while a school in Kharkiv and a residential building in Kherson also sustained damage. Zelensky called for new measures to pressure Russia and secure a halt to the ongoing strikes.
As the war persists three and a half years after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, military activities continue unabated. Notably, a military official indicated that Russian forces had crossed into Dnipropetrovsk for the first time, though their advance was reportedly stopped.
Moscow has yet to claim any part of Dnipropetrovsk, unlike regions such as Donetsk, which remain under intense scrutiny.
On Wednesday, Russia's defense ministry claimed its troops had taken control of a village in Donetsk, acknowledging high casualties among Russian forces while noting recent territorial gains.
