Authorities are actively searching for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of 'Today' show host Savannah Guthrie, who reportedly went missing after being taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, against her will over the weekend.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized the urgency of locating Nancy, noting her health is at significant risk without her medication, as she was last seen on Saturday night. Nancy was officially reported missing on Sunday after family members were alerted by someone at her church that she didn’t attend services.
Search efforts initially included drones and dogs but have since shifted to a crime scene investigation as authorities investigate signs of forced entry at her home. Personal belongings, like Nancy's cellphone and wallet, remained at the residence, raising alarms about a potential abduction.
The sheriff has been careful not to disclose whether Nancy's disappearance appears random or targeted. Currently, investigators are analyzing video footage and patrol records while DNA samples have been gathered for analysis.
On social media, Savannah Guthrie expressed her anguish, asking for prayers to help bring her mother home safely. She spoke fondly of her mother's role in their family, recalling how Nancy held them together after the sudden death of Savannah's father.
The mystery deepens as the motive for the incident remains unclear, with authorities stating they do not suspect a robbery or ransom is involved in Nancy's disappearance. Multiple media outlets have reportedly received what are believed to be ransom notes, which have been turned over to investigators.
As the investigation unfolds, Savannah calls for community support, hoping her mother will be found safe and sound soon.
