Melbourne mourns the loss of a promising young cricketer as seventeen-year-old Ben Austin passed away after a tragic accident during a practice session. On Tuesday in Ferntree Gully, Ben was struck on the neck by a cricket ball launched by a handheld device.
Despite wearing a helmet, he did not have neck protection, which led to the fatal incident. Emergency responders were called to the scene shortly after the accident, and he was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, after being placed on life support, he succumbed to his injuries on Thursday.
Ben's father, Jace Austin, shared the family’s anguish, expressing, We are utterly devastated by the death of our beautiful Ben. He highlighted Ben's love for cricket, which had been a source of joy through countless summers spent playing with friends.
