A Canadian mining company reports a devastating update on the fate of its abducted workers, confirming that several employees who were taken from a project site in Mexico last month have been found dead.
The missing workers, totaling ten from Vancouver-based Vizsla Silver Corp, were last seen on January 23 when they were kidnapped near Concordia, Mexico.
Vizsla Silver Corp stated that family members of the kidnapped workers informed them of the tragic news regarding their loved ones' deaths. The firm is currently awaiting official confirmation from Mexican authorities.
“We are devastated by this outcome and the tragic loss of life,” said Michael Konnert, president and CEO of Vizsla. “Our focus remains on the safe recovery of those who remain missing.”
Families have expressed their grief and outrage. A family member of one victim identified the body of his brother, José Manuel Castañeda Hernández, a 43-year-old geologist. In a heartfelt message, his brother Jaime lamented, “In truth, this has been very painful to be here, in a place where we don't want to be,” adding that there is “no justice with what's happening.”
This tragic incident raises ongoing safety concerns in the mining sector, already plagued by violence and insecurity in the region. As the community mourns, many are calling for justice and safer working conditions for mining employees in Mexico.
