A tragic incident unfolded in Jammu and Kashmir on November 15, 2025, as an accidental explosion at a police station led to the deaths of nine people and left 32 others injured. The explosion occurred when a stockpile of confiscated explosives accidentally detonated at Nowgam police station.

The incident took place just days after a car blast in Delhi, labeled by the government as a terror attack. The explosives responsible for the explosion at the police station had been seized in Faridabad, Haryana, earlier that week and were being prepared for forensic examination.

Nalin Prabhat, the region's director general of police, stated that the detonation was a result of an unfortunate mishap during handling procedures that occurred at approximately 23:20 local time (17:50 GMT).

Officials confirmed that this event was an accidental explosion, dismissing any link to terrorism. Police urged journalists to refrain from speculation regarding the cause of the incident. The police station itself suffered extensive damage, with adjacent buildings and multiple vehicles engulfed in flames.

The blast's intensity was significant, with body parts reportedly found in nearby houses, some 100-200 meters away. The majority of the victims included police officers, forensic personnel, and others present at the scene, including a crime scene photographer and a tailor.

In light of the tragedy, Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of the region appointed by the Indian government, expressed his condolences and announced a probe into the matter. He shared his sorrow on social media, emphasizing the need to discern the cause of the explosion while mourning the tragic loss of life.
