A Canadian mining company has confirmed that several of its workers, abducted from a project site in Mexico, have been found dead.
Ten employees of the Vancouver-based Vizsla Silver Corp were reported missing after being taken from a mining site near Concordia on January 23.
Family members of some of the kidnapped workers reported that their relatives were found deceased, as confirmed by the company.
Vizsla Silver stated they are currently awaiting confirmation from Mexican authorities and have pledged to provide further updates.
We are devastated by this outcome and the tragic loss of life, said Michael Konnert, president and CEO of Vizsla Silver Corp, who extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, adding that the company remains focused on the safe recovery of those who remain missing.
One family member, Jaime Castañeda, identified his brother, José Manuel Castañeda Hernández, a 43-year-old geologist, amid the ongoing search. He expressed the profound pain of the situation, calling attention to the lack of justice surrounding these events.
This tragic incident has sparked renewed concern regarding the safety of mining workers in Mexico, raising questions about security measures in such high-risk areas.
