Australian children's music group The Wiggles has issued a statement after two of its members appeared in a controversial music video for a song that seemingly references drug use. The since-deleted clip for musician Keli Holiday's new song Ecstasy, features Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and his nephew Dominic Field, known for playing the Tree of Wisdom, dancing in the background.
A spokesperson for The Wiggles stated that the group does not condone drug use in any form and clarified that the video was created without their approval.
Before being taken down, the TikTok video garnered over 92,000 views, raising concerns among parents across Australia. The Wiggles addressed these concerns directly, stating, We understand that a video circulating on social media has caused concern for many parents and professionals, and we want to address that directly. They added, The Wiggles do not support or condone the use of drugs in any form. The content being shared was not created or approved by us, and we have asked for it to be removed.
Although Keli Holiday is described as a friend of The Wiggles, the group stressed that the video and music were produced independently and without their knowledge. The clip was filmed during the TikTok Awards, where members of The Wiggles performed alongside Holiday during his song Dancing2.
Holiday shared the video, captioning it, The Wiggles get it, to promote his new single, which includes the lyrics Hey girl, come on dance with me. You and your pocket full of ecstasy. In the statement, The Wiggles maintained that their performance at the awards remained family-friendly and distanced themselves from the edited content circulated online. The Wiggles, created in 1991, has become a beloved performance group for young children, with Anthony Field being the last original member still involved.
Meanwhile, Keli Holiday is known for being part of the electronic dance duo Peking Duk.
