South Korea Launches Real‑Time App to Track Stalkers

The South Korean government today rolled out a new mobile application that lets victims of stalking see the real‑time location of their stalkers. The app, designed by the police department, streams GPS data directly to the victim’s phone, enabling an immediate response by police if needed.

Officials say the service will strengthen protection for those living under threat of personal harassment. “We hope this tool will provide a safer environment for all citizens,” said a spokesperson for the Correlation Police Division.

However, critics warn that such apps may create new privacy risks or could be exploited by stalkers themselves if they gain access to the victim’s device. Academics and civil‑rights advocates argue that additional safeguards are needed to ensure that the technology does not inadvertently empower the very abductors it is meant to deter.
